East Toledo Arts Initiative

The East Toledo community has recently come together as a force for change inspired by the arts and fueled by passion. Our councilman, Mike Craig, was fortunate enough to contact Rob Hankins, the founder of Art Stark, who has made a career revitalizing communities through the arts. From our research and conversations with him, we have decided to embark on our own journey of revitalization:

PHASE ONE: PUBLIC ART

Our first initiative will begin with artist-designed and painted public fixtures, such as street side trashcans and planters, to begin beautifying Main Street, Toledo.

Deadline: May 4, 2014

CORE is seeking designs for Phase 1 of the East Toledo Public Art Initiative. In this call, 18 cement trashcans already placed on Main Street will be transformed from dull gray cylinders to bright and creative works of art. Designs are now being accepted for this project and all artists or groups are encouraged to participate. Winning designs strike the street this summer.

MainStarr Promo1

LeSo Gallery, in partnership with CORE, announces the beginning of a series of murals that will be installed along Starr Avenue near the corner of Main Street in East Toledo.  Local eighth grade students of Imagine Clay Avenue Middle School have completed the first three in the series of murals where LeSo Gallery director, Amber LeFever, currently teaches.  Local artists, including LeSo staff Amber LeFever, Adam Soboleski, and Bradley Scherzer, will complete the remaining 16 murals. The murals will be placed on the boarded up windows of the buildings.
